Polin Sans: A Multiscript Typeface Inspired by Polish Modernism

In my contemplation spanning several years, I envisioned a type family that delves into the modernist aesthetic, drawing inspiration from Władysław Strzemiński's Alphabet "a.r." and the multiscript pre-war Warsaw. This vision materialized into the creation of the Polin Sans typeface. Intrigued by geometric variants of the Cyrillic alphabet, I explored the essay "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov," discovering the seamless integration of circular forms into the classical version, as seen in the Bulgarian Cyrillic.

During my tenure at typoteka.pl, the Hebrew typeface Jaffa, akin to the Alphabet "a.r.," captivated me. Collaborating with Ben Nathan from Israel, we expanded the project to include his native script, birthing a multiscript family that embraces Greek and Vietnamese. Polin Sans emerges as a historical voyage through the intricacies of Polish modernism, a testament to the cultural diversity of its creators.

Designed by Mateusz Machalski and Ben Nathan, with the invaluable support of Michał Gorczyca and Małgorzata Bartosik, Polin Sans stands as a testament to the harmonious convergence of artistic influences and cultural backgrounds.
